Kerry Kisslinger speaks on the success of hiring good employees. The Key to being self employed and running a small business is good employees. I have been self employed for most of my life and have been involved and owned several successful small business over the years. The one thing and most important thing that I have learned is that your staff (employees) will make or break your company. Sure it is easy or somewhat easy to run a business by yourself, because you are in charge. You the business owner make every decision; you know everything that goes on in the business. You are responsible for the sales, the customer service, the books, the company’s reputation etc. Before you know it, you have done a great job. Next you are patting yourself on the back and looking at expansion get rid of cellulite .The decisions you make next are key. You have to hire the right kind of employees for your business. I am going to outline what I feel is key in hiring a good employee.Always check references. Trust your gut. If you do not feel good about the candidate in the interview do not hire them. You can not change them. Call all of there work history. Most people when interviewing for a job only put down there good references, they never put down the job that they stole from or the company they destroyed. If funds permit perform a background check and drug testing. Interview several people for the position. Hold a second and third interview. Have the employee on probation for 90 days. At the end of 90 days if it is not working out, you can let them go. Be sure and make this clear upfront.
